does consolidation programs help in credit card payoff?

I was in credit card consolidation several years ago and unfortunatley I didn't learn my lesson and am currently in a program. It worked for me, basically what you do is pay a monthly amount that the creditors are willing to accept as payment. You will be paying back all debt, however, sometimes they will lower the interest rate and also waive late payment fees once you are in a program. Do some research before you sign up though - there are lots of scams.

Welcome to the Community :D I have heard it work for some and not for others. I,like the previous poster, think it is wise to check out whoever you are going to let handle your money.

How much debt do your have? I settled our debt by myself, although we didn't have a huge amount to settle. Actually I don't mean settle- I got on the hardship program and eventually got them paid off. You can ask them about hardship programs and they will either drop or lower your interest so you can get caught up and paid off. If you don't stick with the agreement, however, they will drop you from the program.

You are entitled to a free consultation since you signed up, they may offer other solutions.

Check out any programs you get on and ask questions about fees, time limits, etc..Best of luck to you, feel free to ask questions. We are here to help!..karen
