I am seriously considering using a debt consolidation program, however I really do not know where to begin or how to go about doing so. I have 3 credit cards and one loan, all of which I am severely behind on and all are in debt collection stage, at least some of them having been sold off to a junk debt buyer.

The bank with which I had one credit card and the loan through, took me to court one month ago in the state and county that I used to reside in, however I moved across country months ago and was never served papers. I looked on that county clerks website and found that the case is still open but they are seeking a money judgment. There is also a junk debt buyer who today notified me that they are taking me to court for another credit card in that same county and state that I used to live in, which I have no hope of being able to attend due to the travel distance involved and my financial situation.

Aside from that, there are 2 other credit cards in collection stage, but do not appear to be taking me to court yet.

I have 2 major questions concerning my situation.

1. Is it possible for a debt consolidation program to help someone in my situation; Can they help me even if I have a judgment or judgments against me?

2. I do not have the names and addresses of the collection agencies. The person I talked to today was from Creditors Exchange and when I asked for the name and address of the company to which I could send a letter of debt validation, he stated that the debt had been validated, that I was attempting a common stall tactic and hung up on me. How can I obtain all of the names and addresses of the debts I wish to consolidate if they won't give it to me on the phone and I have not received paper notices from the collection agency/junk debt buyer?

I appreciate any and all help that you might be able to give, thank you.

To answer your first question ~ I wouldn't think that having a judgement would mean a consolidation company wouldn't work with you but I'm sure that judgement wouldn't be included in the program since those payments are court ordered.

As for the second question ~ I would start buy pulling your three credit reports. You'll see the current status of your accounts as well as who is reporting them. They'll include the names, addresses and phone numbers of the creditors.

I hope that helps!
