Do I have to be behind on my debts before I can get assistance of some kind?

I have around $75,000 of unsecured credit card debt and I am not yet behind. Ihave been able to make a little more than my monthly payments, though the amount more I can make decreases monthly. I have a large boat loan and I have been trying to sell my boat in order to free up funds to pay down my debt, but have had absolutely zero interest from anyone about purchasing the boat. With gas prices and the economy, no one wants to buy a boat. Particulary one that costs $90K. We have no savings, no 401K or retirement of any kind and I just turned 50. We are currently living paycheck to paycheck (and our income is not insignificant) and we are really feeling like we are drowning. I have been considering debt settlement, but I am unsure if this is the answer. Due to the market downturn, I owe more on my house that it is worth at the moment, though I have a good rate and my mortgage is fixed, so no problems there, except I cannot get an equity loan to pay off my debts. I keep receiving ads for all kinds of debt relief, but am worried about getting ripped off.
