Has anyone ever successfully terminated their residential rental agreement without fault and/or additional rent payments?

It depends how much of an @$$ the landlord wants to be, and/or whether he's prepared to sue over the issue...
My last job had duties as a property manager. I used to have tenants break their lease all the time and move out without notice. My boss really didn't like going to court, so as long as they didn't cause lots of damage in the apartment, he didn't care when they left early.
