How fast can collection agency seek judgement

How soon from receiving an account from a doctors office can a collection agency seek sending it to legal process (i.e. judgment)?
An attorney needs to file suit. Rarely do CA's have an attorney
An attorney needs to file suit. Rarely do CA's have an attorney on staff. The CA will generally work the account for a while, and it will send monthly "updates" to the doctor's office on their progress. It will be up to the DR's office if/when they want to pull the file back from the CA and send it to an attorney for suit.
