I think it's open, they happily accept whatever payment I send to them. It also seems to be forwarded to NCO. I'm receiving multiple phone calls from them on my cell and dorm phone 3+ times a day AND at ungodly hours. I didn't know it was possible to have an open account forwarded to a collection agency. Anywho, I'm a college kid that got hold of a Capital One card and made a few bad choices. I pay my bills on time every month, pay my Chase card down to $0 every month. As you can see, I have a job on campus and am financially responsible. Except for a card with a 2K limit that is almost $400 over the limit (late fees I suspect).

I have NO clue how I should proceed. They keep calling and sending letters and it's very stressful. I can't just pay the $400 and start making the normal monthly payments. Not anytime soon at least. Is there a way I can consolidate this and start making one monthly payment? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm too young to have my credit wrecked already.

If the account is still owned by Cap One but out sourced out to an OSA then it must be in default. You either had not made a payment within 90 days or you have had a past due balance for more than 90 days. If a collection agency is calling it is because you are in the charge off status and the balance is due.

hi xato! it is indeed commendable that you are trying so hard to pay off debts, and although you are a student you sound mature enough to handle your own finances. so you are more or less paying off all your cards, and it is just this one that you are stuck with, right? as much as i know, all your debts and repayments get recorded in your credit report, and you are entitled to get a free copy every year. so get hold of your's and show that to your creditors that you are someone responsible enough to pay off your debts and you wont be running away with their money. tell them that you are student, and do not have so much of ready cash. ask them if they can defer it. talk to Cap One directly and request them to inform the collection agency not to call you up as it is interfering with your studies. see what happens....
