Hello,
I just pulled my credit reports and i have something from Asset Acceptance LLC Equifax states that the balance is $8,031 while trans union states that the balance is $7,813 on both reports they are listed as open accounts but under pay status it says collection account on transunion and under comments on equifax it says collection account. The original creditor says citibank. from reading this forum i have gathered that i should send a DVL but i dont even know the account number in question or the department i should send it to my credit report shows an x'd out account number.

Hi!
Welcome to the Forums!
Yes, you should send a debt validation letter in writing. You are correct about that. You can contact Citibank regarding this matter. They can tell you the account number.
Check out the following link to view the sample debt validation letter:

The sample letter is inaccurate. They are not requried to send you either 1 or 3. Send it to Asset Acceptance....you can call citibank yourself to see if they placed it with asset or sold it to them It they sold it, simply send them a letter stating.

"I dispute the validity of this debt. Per the FDCPA, prove to me that I owe it. I require a copy of the original signed cardholder agreement."

Short, simple and to the point. Read the FDCPA for what they are required to send you. And make your request in plain english.
