Do it yourself. A lot of creditors simply won't deal with debt settlement companies. I did mine back in 2010 myself and it was far easier than anticipated. A little nerve racking at times, but this forum was great for advise on specific creditors.
If you really don't want to do it yourself, use a Consumer Credit Counseling service that is a non-profit. But with these you repay either a reduced amount or at reduced interest rates over time and it has a terrible effect on your credit going forward. I settled my stuff myself and then was able to immediately start rebuilding my score with the few things that were left - car and mortgage. I just had my credit pulled and it is almost 700. I just need it good enough to get insurance and if my car got wrecked, a new car.
