Name was never on this account, just have the same last name of deceased's. Husband sister died and left a $490.00 Verizon bill to be paid. When the sister died my husband canceled her account, he had to give his name and proof of death:rolleyes: in doing so now Allied is harassing my children and husband and even put a $ 490.00 against my son's credit. What can be done?
Send Allied a cease and desist letter telling them that the debt
Send Allied a cease and desist letter telling them that the debt does not belong to you, nor anyone in your family and you are disputing it. Ask them to stop contacting you. Send the letter certified mail, RRR. Since it's a disputed debt, they cannot continue collection. I would also contact Verizon and demand that they stop collection on this bill.
Should it be turned over to another collection agency, do the same. Check your credit reports to make sure it's not being reported on yours. If it is, report it to the credit bureaus as a disputed debt and ask that it be removed.
