Michael,
Have they sent you any written correspondence? If they do, you can ask them to validate the debt, this will buy you some time. Allied normally settles accounts for about 50% off on the current balance, deal with them the same way you would any other collector.

Yes I have experience with them. They have a Sprint datacard account of mine. They were very interesting. The amount I owe is only $175 I've tried to pay it several times but then the amount always mysteriously goes up so I refuse to pay it until I have a solid number to pay.
They say that's okay we'll just continue calling you. They call 6-12 times per day per phone number every single day. If you answer no one is there. The calls start the same way every day - right at 7:59am and the last call is usually about 8:55pm. Yes every single day. So first they call my home phone, then my office phone and then my cell phone - same way every single day.
Yesterday I sent via certified mail a cease and desist letter. Let's hope it works. They would have had their money if they just would take what they sent me a few weeks ago. their loss - I owe tens of thousands in credit cards I'm trying to settle. I'm not afraid of a $175 possible lawsuit.
info to help & info to know
depending on which creditor you owe that Allied is collecting on is very crucial, collection agencies can be very good in away, they have what is called a quota with their client which is your original creditor, if they collect alot of money from other people in debt that means they can let you slide with something low. it doesnt always work out like this but most of the time it can. at the end of each month collection agencies get VERY VERY cheap with settlements.
hope this paints a picture.
