Amex Settlement offer from Aegis Receivable Management
Date: Mon, 10/26/2009 - 11:24
The ADVANTA & AMEX cards were business accounts but I'm sure are somehow personally guaranteed.
Anyway, I'm trying to settle all accounts for 10-40%. If I can get it down under $100K I have the income to ability to make arrangements to pay the rest monthly or just settle as they charge off. This means I MUST settle with AMEX, FIA, CITI, BARCLAYS, ADVANTA before I even consider not filing bankruptcy. I would prefer to avoid bankruptcy as I don't wish to live under court supervision for 5 years since it would be a Chapter 13 plan.
I received a 20% across the board settlement offer from Aegis for 3 AMEX cards that total around $26000 so the payoff would be $4200. I talked them down from an unsolicited offer of 25-35% across the cards.
Has anyone dealt with Aegis? They are insisting on an over the phone payment and have sent the offer in writing to me already, but it's only good for 24hours. I have a totally seperate checking account and am considering using this account for only debt settlement payments so I would just deposit the EXACT amount for withdraw each time I settle.
Any advice would be appreciated, I'm just wondering what your experience is with this company.
Thanks!
G.M.

No, no, no you mustn???t send anything to a collection agency without receiving proper validation from them. Moreover you mustn???t ever agree to an over the phone payment. Never give away your account information to a collector. If you need to pay, arrange for moneygram payment or pay through debit card.
Hope you have asked for validation from them.

my experience is horrible with this type of payment trust me Never ever do this. i know alot do but it is so risky. I had a settlement of 1300.00 and they double dipped me taking out a total of 2600 overdrafting me and it of course was a "accident" that took them 2 months to put back. scince i authorised the 1 time payment with the checking instead of a debit card the bank couldnt charge back. so i had to wait for them to put it back and then they refused to pay the overdraft charges leaving me stuck for around (1,000.00 for just this one payment i had other checks that bounced also). so it was either pay the 1000 or get a attorney to filecharges on them and frankly it was cheaper to pay the 1000. the bank did give me a break on all the charges but i still had to pay some. you figure it out 37.00 for overdraft and 12.00 a day that the account was overdrawn. I think the bank settled for 300.00 but still. it was a nightmare having to keep going to the bank filing out papers, then every few days i had to send them in a form stating what was discussed with them and all communication that was made with them that particular week. dont expose yourself to that nightmare.
sadly i used my regular checking which also bounced all my other checks like i said before so the bill was alot larger and i had to go almost 2 months with no money relying on my parents for food, and diapers. trust me you dont wanna do that.
