Hi all;
I'm over 90 days late with AmEx. They have been trying to get me to commit to a hardship program for a few weeks. The balance is right around $3500. Their offer was 6 months at 0% interest, then 6 months at 9%, with a payment due each month of $70. Just yesterday a rep told me that I would have until today to decide, and then the offer would not be available. Today I called back (I decided I would take the offer to allow me some more time to save for a settlement deal) and they said sorry no deal.......AND that my account was now with an outside collection agency. The AmEx rep that I spoke with was SOOOO rude and made sure that I understood that she legally did not even have to speak with me, and that I should be greatful that I even got a few minutes of her time. She would not let me complete a sentence (I was trying to explain that a rep from yesterday told me I could call today to accept the offer) and was in the process of hanging up on me and my anger got the best of me.....I told her to f&%* off. I know how childish of me but I swear she was so incredibly rude and I just let my anger get the best of me.

So what do you think I am going to encounter now?

relax....with a 3500 balance you're not going to get sued for a while.....they will offer to settle with you for sure.....don't take it personal

I think that as soon as it was obvious that the conversation was going sideways, I would have just ended the call, then called again, getting a different person. I would likely keep doing it until someone had the courtesy to listen for a minute or so. At the beginning of each call, it is a good idea to get the agent's name and their agent ID # (they all have one). At the very least, you can file a complaint with the person's superior.
