I spoke to the collector, and they are really pushing to settle the account by tomorrow 11am, and then it goes back to AMEX they say. Which to me implies I can deal with AMEX directly on the last day of the month (this is the month I was 180 days late). Can anybody confirm this? And if you went back to AMEX did you get a better settlement offer than the collector?

FYI, this was the same scenario with chase (on one of many accounts I had with them), who kept insisting I talk to the collector for the one account, and the last day I called chase just to try, and I settled directly with chase on all accounts.

Amex likes to reassign to another collection agent when the first one fails. My opinion is that the best settlements come before 180 days with amex, and NCO is the most willing to negotiate. I have read that zwicker can be a nightmare, as well as a couple of others they use. If you have substantial assets, don't be at all surprised when you receive a summons. Several have been posted here in a similar situation.
