Hello
I got a summons served on me yesterday and I have 30 days to reply.
This is for back taxes from my county back in 06 and 07.
I want to pay in some manner hopefully with payments not a lump sum.
Do I contact the group on the summons or try to get a lawyer to reduce the inflated interest?

Your balance is not just interest....it also now includes the cost of the action (court costs, filing fees) and legal fees. Your interest rate which is set by your county is probably pretty reasonable.

Unless you have the money to settle now, dont expect any reduction in the balance.

If you do not have a lump sum or the ability to pay it in full, they will get their judgment. You need to ask for a contingency judgement, one that allows you to make payments without any further action like wage garnishment or bank account seizure.

Not much an attorney can do for you...and he will cost you big bucks. This is public debt, not the same as a credit card going to court.
