I recently paid off a bounced check. When setting up the payment, I inquired about the length of time it would take to clear with the company. No definitive answer was given. So my question is how long it takes for the company to aknowledge the check has been paid and to remove my name from the check tracking company? Should I call the company?

Sorry if these aren't the right terms.

The time it takes for the check to clear can vary depending on who the company banks with, and what their bank's process time is. Sometimes is can clear the next day after it is deposited, but the average seems to be 2-3 business days.

As for the company removing you from check tracking companies such as Chexsystems and SCAN, I would contact the company after you have verified with your bank that the check has cleared, and ask them to confirm in writing that they have removed your name from any check tracking companies that they submitted info to.

If they don't follow through, you can request a copy of your reports from each check tracking company to see what's on there. If the info. has not been removed, you can dispute this, similar to the way you would with a credit report.

ChexSystems toll-free phone number is (800) 428-9623 or (800) 513-7125. Order a copy of your Chexsystems report and see how the latest entries are reported. If the items are not reported correctly, put a dispute and ask them to validate the information from the bank. Mention in your dispute letter that you want to see copies of any documentation they have regarding this entry that has your signature in it. The info needs to be deleted from the file under your SSN.
