Going to eliminate this debt for good....

Just getting started. I have at least $75K in unsecured debt. (Citicards, Chase, B of A, HFC, Best Buy, Amex one Credit Union loan)
The recent mortgage meltdown got me in a bind with US Bank. It put me in a tailspin with my other creditors for the last two years. I have two good, secure incomes. After doing a little research, it seems as if I can do a lot better by settling these debts myself. Please provide advice on how to get started and move through the process effectively. Thanks!
