BOA, and debt settlement
Date: Fri, 08/14/2009 - 20:13
I have $20000 on a BOA card and can no longer pay. I have stopped payments, but wont actually miss my first in years till the 16th.
I have resolved to go the Debt settlement route. I have narrowed it down to working with CRN, or ZiP Debt. Have talked with CRN already. calling zip tomorrow.
I feel certain that I can do this myself with a bit of coaching, training, and encouragement.
Would anyone like to suggest alternatives to either of the two companies mentioned, criticisms of either, or other encouragement?

Yeah true, most often than not we can actually settle our debts ourselves. With a bit of determination coupled with the money management/budgeting skills, we can get rid of our debt problems quite easily. You must check with the do it yourself section of this site. I am sure that you'd get the much needed assistance there.

Hi D,
It seems that CRN or Consumer Recovery Network is listed with BBB with a B+ rating but there is no listing for Zipdebt. You can read CRN's review in the following link.

Hope it helps. :)

Charles Phelan's course "Zip Debt" is a great one. It leads you step by step through how to do debt settlement yourself. I own this program and it is very thorough. Don't know about CRN, but you should check into Hoffman, Brinker and Roberts do it yourself debt settlement course. You can find it on their website hoffmanbrinker.com. I own this one too and it is also very, very thorough. In fact, I used the information in this course to negotiate 28% settlement with Chase just yesterday. They are both over $200 for the program, but they are worth it, especially compared what you would pay to a settlement company. Definitely do it yourself!

I've been going back and forth trying to decide to order zipdebt for myself. I listened to the sample recording from his website and I thought it would be great to have just for the peace of mind. I can't really afford his program right now, but I'm wondering if he has more information than this website provides, if it would be worth it in the long run???

Well with me I tryed to settle with BofA in June. They later changed their minds, they said their rules changed and they dont settle till later on for account. After about 4 months of not paying they called and said I now can settle. They wanted on 3 accounts 13k,15k,30k to settle for 30%,30% and 37% on the large one. But Chase I owed 13k to did not want a settlement and pretty much said I had 2 weeks to start some kinda of payment program or they were taking me to court. I was waiting for a Loan Mod but that did not go so I finally had to start to file Chapt7. But over all BofA was the best I delt with and if you can just hold out and you might get a good deal.

by all means do it yourself if possible. this site has great tips on diy and read up. it will save you alot of money to go that route. be prepared though the creditors are usually not very nice and will threaten, or whatever. so i also suggest you read up on what they are allowed and not allowed to say or threaten you with. I wish i had more chances than not i was being harrassed. They prey on the fact that you dont know any better, but if you read up you will no better and will be able to call them out on it. Good luck to you!
