CACV of Colorado

CACV of Colorado sued my mother in 2006 for a repossessed vehicle. Since she did not have any money to pay these people, she did not appear in court and as a result, a default judgement was entered against her. She just recently learned that CACV of Colorado has a lien on the title of her home, and we'd like to attempt to reach some type of settlement with these people to have the lien removed.
I contacted Square Two financial since I was advised this was formerly CACV of Colorado, but I was advised my mother's account had been sold (more than once)and is now with Hosto, Buchan, Prater, and Lawrence. These people are now telling me that my mother will have to pay almost $15,000 to have the lien removed, but the default judgement amount was only around $9,000!
My mother has never rec'd any mailings or notices from HBPL, so how do we know if we pay them the CACV lien would be removed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

Ask them to send you something in writing that will prove that they have the account. If they can prove it, then ask for a letter which will prove that the lien will be removed.
