My friend Melisa has asked me to help her to decide about a good debt settlement offer. Is there any way to calculate it or does it entirely depend on the creditor?

There’s nothing like a good debt settlement offer. It depends on your negotiation skills. Plus, how much you have to pay toward your settlement depends on the amount you and your creditor will agree.

Every creditor has it's own settlement parameters. Some are more flexible than others I have seen settlements as low as 10 cents on the dollar, however very rare. Today creditors don't deviate from there parameters unless there is an unusual hardship that is supported and without a settlement the chances of recovery is slim to none.
Try to negotiate for at least
Try to negotiate for at least 40% reduction on the outstanding balance. Make sure you check beforehand how much you can afford to pay on an account.
