[size=18]hi, I was thinking about signing with campos chartered law firm to get rid of my credit card debt. I see that some you posted some things about them in May. It is now November, does anyone have any updated information to share with me. I am broke and don't need a scam right now. Thanks!

Hi, why a law firm to get rid of your debt? I'm just wondering if you're considering a consolidation company as well? has anyone told you about the free consultation this site offers to members? being that you're new (or it looks that way) that's the first place i would turn to. this site's debt professionals can help you come up with more options maybe than turning exclusively to a law firm, nothing against them, I just don't have any experience with them. I consolidated through a non profit legit company. whatever you choose, please research the company through the BBB website and this site. also, i haven't done this yet but you can type campos in the search bar above and see what others have said about them up to this point. I wish you luck and hope that whatever avenue you choose to pursue that it's the right one for your financial situation.

ngremmel, The Campos Chartered Law Firm is not a scam. Sure, they have dissatisfied clients, but what business doesn't, especially when people's money is involved and you are dealing with abusive debt collectors. There are a lot of debt settlement companies out there all basically offering the same service. Most of them don't do anything you could't do on your own, the difference being they do it for a living and therefore they have the experience and time to do it. Nothing comes without its costs. In most cases debt settlement will allow the consumer to get out of debt for close to 50% of the current total debt balance. The downside being is that no one can stop the debt collectors from harassing the consumer and the consumer needs to understand that their credit score will likely drop at least 100 points. For most consumers considering debt settlement their credit score has already been impacted or soon will be. So, if you can deal with the debt collection calls, or simply ignore them, and you are comfortable with the trade-off of your credit score going down but being out of debt in around 3 years, then debt settlement may be for you. You just have to be realistic on the way in, and have proper expectations. If someone tells you that they can stop the debt collection calls, and/or that debt settlement does not hurt your credit, then they are not being honest. Personally, I would rather work with a debt settlement attorney that has their license on the line than work with a non-attorney debt settlement company with nothing at risk and little to no knowledge of the laws governing debt collection.
