I received a letter yesterday from Alliance Asset Management, Inc. stating they are collection my payday loan and that I owe $534.00. Is this collection agency legal in Minnesota? and is GECC legal? From what I found GECC is a member of CFSA. Is it too late to contact GECC to ask for a repayment plan?

it is never too late to ask for a pmt plan on any bill,....it is not illegal to have a collection agency in MN there are just rules to follow. if you owe the bill, the best thing to do would be to actually try to contact the original creditor if you can and ask them to retract the bill from the agency and allow you to mk pmts to them if possible. likely they turned it over if you were avoiding them......ask for 4 equal pmts...they will probably be thrilled

what state are you in?
how much did you borrow?'
how much was debited by GECC?

they are not licensed to lend therefore you pnly owe what you borrowed.

alliance is an unlicensed collector for unlicensed pdl's.please provide the info requested, and we can further advise from there.

I live in Minnesota. I borrowed $350 and have paid $385.00 in fees. From what I could find Alliance is licensed in Minnesota and GECC is licensed in Delaware. It seems my only recourse is to try and contact GECC to see if I can work out a repayment plan and retract the bill from collections. GECC is also a member of CFSA.

is GECC licensed in MN?if not then point out this to ALLIANCE.sometimes the CA will be collecting for an illegal pdl.minnesota law now states that a pdl must be licensed in that state to lend.find out if GECC is licensed in MN.it doesn't matter if they are licensed in delaware.they have to be licensed in MN.

From what I can find any internet payday lender has to be licensed in the State of Minnesota effective 8-1-09. Prior to that they would have to follow the payday law of the State they are licensed in. I don't think I have a choice but to try and get the debt collection retracted through GECC.

There are many, many CA with the name Alliance. Probably at least half a dozen in my states database. make sure you are looking up the correct alliance and that the names match-I am pretty surre this one is located in mission, KS. I would be really surprised if they are liscensed. I have dealt with them and they don't act very legal. They sent me a dunning letter I dv them and never heard from them again.

The "remit to" address is AAM, Inc. 330 Georgetown Square, Suite 104, Wood Dale, IL 60191. The return address is Department #5975, PO Box 1259, Oaks, PA 19456. On the back of the collection letter it states
"this collection agency is licensed by the MInnesota Department of Commerce". I did a lookup on the MN Dept. of Commerce Website and it does show an Allied Asset Mgmt. with a license in Minnesota. Not sure where to go from here. I am going to send them a debt validation letter thought. Should I ask them for their Minnesota license # to verify they are licensed?

they are not the same as ALLIANCE ASSET MANAGEMENT.after further scrutiny they are not licensed at all.as for the law.i thought it was 4-01-09 when the law went into effect.

I too have a payday loan w/GECC Cash Direct Express
Alliance Asset Management keeps calling me for payment. I borrowed 400.00 and have paid back 400.00 but they also want 350.00 in late fees and interest. I do not have 350.00 any suggestions. I live in Ohio and have not been able to locate a license number for either of the two.

I have a loan with cash express. I have paid $620 on a $400 loan. They say I still owe $520. Does anyone know if I have to pay the rest of this? I really don't think I have to pay $1100 on a $400 loan.. any advice?

Everyone needs to file complaints against them with the FTC, BBB and their Attorney General's office, filing complaints is a lot easier now than it use to be, just do so online.
