Most of the cc companies will wait until you are past due-at least 3 months before they will work with you. However, a couple of mine worked with me when I was going on three months past due and one when I was 60 days past due.
I told them I wanted to pay them off, but with the fees, charges, etc., that was next to impossible.I first made sure of my budget before I talked with them and told them I could pay it off if they were to drop the interest. I had a couple do that and a couple that dropped the interest dramatically--cannot remember how much now.
First, I started out with the lowest balance one, saved and did without, extra jobs, etc., and added extra to the payment. I did this until it was paid off. I then took the money from that paid off card and applied that payment to the next lowest one,and did that until they were paid off---it took time, but it took time to get myself into that mess. Some people pay the highest interest ones off first,I started with the lowest balance to get some results I could see.
When the dropped the interest and lowered it,it made it alot easier to pay off, and I could see that I was finally getting somwwhere.
Do be aware that if you claim financial difficulty, you may have to prove that.Somehow I lucked out and they took my word for it and worked with me.
Be sure that you can make the payments you work out with them because they will drop you from the hardship program if you don't....Good Luck..karen
