Would anyone here be able to tell me how long it takes a company to charge off an account?

Most of the credit card companies charge off at the 180 day (6 month) mark. That doesn't mean they will not send it to a third party or in house collection agency before that. It depends on who holds your debt. This site is a great way to gauge what will happen with any one particular company. Type the name of your debt holder in the search box and it will bring up a bunch of threads you can read to get a good idea of how a particular creditor will proceed in your situation. Then if you have any questions, just post them with the community and you will always get some help and/or advice. Peace

It would be good for someone to FULLY expain a "charge off", as it has meaning towards the OC is released from burden of carrying the account as far as escrowing your credit limit (federal laws from what I'm told), most of the time they sell it to get it out of thier system, even the banks with thier own internal collections... US Bank, google them, they offer collection services, but they sell charged off accounts.
To answer your original question, 6 months, give or take a few days.
