I need some advice. I owe about 30 k in credit cards about 18k with Chase one for 10 under my name and the other for 8k under my wifes name. We are past due about 90 days on both accounts. I have recently sold my house. Got out of a big hole there! I started trying to settle with Chase for about 35% on my 10k. They said no and countered with 67%( two weeks ago)I called back today and offered them 40 % and they came back at 55%. Am I going about this the right way? What is the time frame I should be looking at to try another offer? I tried to combine my two accounts and they would not do that. they said my wifes account could not be settled?? Have you ever heard of an account not being able to be settled?

It depends on how she used her account. CC companies usually will not settle if most of the bill is for cash advances, Capital One (some on here call them Crap One) usually will not settle. If they came back with that offer, you are lucky. I had to bring my account up to date with them or they would have taken me to court. You might be able to get them down a tad more, but they are not very cooperative.
It doesn't hurt to call every week to call the credit card companies to see what they will accept. As you get closer to charge off, they might accept less. and then again I've seen them jack up the settlement amount. Each is different.

If you're 90 days past due then y'all will need about another 30-60 days to enter into the good settlement zone.
In my opinion, just keep calling then every week or so.....and ask the csr what's going on with your account.
I found chase-me down was one of my easiest to settle with. And yes it's possible to settle multiple accounts at once. I recall that chase-me down settled 4 accounts of mine at once at about 30%.
Hang in there, be tough......you'll make it happen.
Please keep us updated.
