I’m 200 days late with Chase, every time I talk to them they say I don’t qualify for a settlement. They say, charge off is 7 months, April 30th is the charge off date. I called chase 2-3 times a month for 7 months. Debt is 17k, I tell them, all I get is social security of about 600 a month, I lost my job a year ago and nobody will hire a 72 yr old woman. I live in CA where the job rate is very low.
I have 8 total CC that I'm going to try and settle with one at a time. My credit report shows that I’m very late with Chase the other 7 CC are in good standing it also show my ex husband name but I’m now divorced.
I have had this account over 20 years and never been late plus I always paid more then the min. Last time I used this acct was 11/2008 it was a promotional check for 1,400 at 3.99%. I have gone thru all my statements from the start of this acct. and the total 17k is all interest over the period of 20 years. Last year they raised the rate to 7.99% on all my promotional’s I had.

Chase did ask me "why do you pay one chase acct and not pay on chase acct". I told them, if you notice after I make a payment on that acct I use it to pay bills so the amount never goes down.
I was afraid to just stop on all 8 credit cards at once, other cc are low payments except for Target

I'm 208 days late, charge off April 30, 2010 Called Chase today, after going through the spill of why I can’t make payments, the women left the phone and came back about 5 min later, she said they refuse to settle for 30 %. Then she says, "well maybe if you settle both my accts one for 30 % the other for 50% they might take it". Then she said, "if I could make a payment of 280 that would give them more time to settle, there is not much time left to settle this acct". I asked why won’t they settle, she says "cause in Dec 2009, I offered 5k on 17k and they refused back then, so now I do not qualify for a settlement". That does not make any sense. Then she said, "maybe it would be best if you filed bk but we don’t want you to file bk." I told her, I don’t want to do that cause I feel bad enough I can’t make the payment. She said, "sent the offer to them anyway and for me to call back Thursday maybe they will change there mind".
She was fishing for answers.

Called Chase 4-29-2010, they now say "I need to make a payment of 129 or it will go to CA or our legal department and your credit well be damaged and you can not talk to use any longer". I told her, I’m too old to worry about my credit now, I’m too deep in debt. She says, maybe the CA well make a deal with you. I asked why I don’t qualify for settlement, this time asking she said she does not know why, the notes just says DO NOT SUBMIT ANY OFFERS. Then she says, she was told Chase is not taking any more offers from anyone. She wanted to know why I could not pay 129 now, I told her I could give her my other Chase payment, but then I would be late on that acct. She says, SORRY I CAN NOT HELP YOU, good luck.

Called chase recovery unit 5-3-2010, I didn’t know if I was going to be sued by chase or it was going to a CA.
They said, "I have offered 5k many times and many times it has been refused and the only thing they will settle for is 80%". I told them I don't have that much then she said 55% is the base min. I told her I would see if I can get more and I will call back.
I don't qualify for a settlement, "they have turned down my 30% offer too many times", to take it now, so they say.

NCB Managment Services, called me this evening (5-5-2010) , he was very nice he went over some stuff, then said he would settle for 6515 about 37% I told him that I could not get that much from family and friends. He said, I see that you are having a hard time right now, I see that on your credit report has been in A+ standing for over 20 yrs. I told him, I tried to get together the 5k (org offer) but all I can get right now is 4400. He said how soon can you get this amount, by this weekend. Ok, the bank will settle for the 4400 about 25%, 6 days after charge off.
I have to get him a fax number so he can send some papers to me, that state bal 0. He wants to take the funds from my bank, that’s ok cause I opened another bank acct away from my org bank.
I'm so happy this is over, the pressure of being sued, I could not sleep nights.

Called Chase 5-6-2010, to check what they did with the account, they told me NCB is collecting for them. So NCB must be Chase’s collection agency.

Called chase 5-7-2010, to see if I could miss payment on my 2nd acct and not lose my 3.99%.
That was a joke!
They tried real hard to get me into a 60 month program, I have 1,800 at 19% and 5,800 at 3.99%.
They said they will lower my % from 19 to 6% and the promo will stay at 3.99% with payment of 145 a month. He kept saying this will save me a lot of money and the acct will be paid off sooner. I would only save 20 a mo for inst and the payment would remain at 145. I could not use card, if I miss a payment promo would go to 29%.
I guess they think I’m dumb or something, they are looking at my charged off acct and they know I might stop this one, they want more money and finding anything they can to raise my promo
What a joke, I pay 148 now

It is so unbelievable how different the banks are with different consumers! I know it has been said before, but I really wish we knew what makes them tick when it comes to this. I had a TOTAL 3 phone calls with Chase and just settled this last week on an over $10,000 balance for 25%...it was so easy. They offered 40 I said I can only do 25..waiting maybe 2 min and she said ok your offer has been accepted. I am sorry for all the stuff you are having to go through with them. I am just beginning so I am sure the hurdles are coming as I have 4 more to go...
