My Chase credit card account has been sold to Nationwide Credit, Inc. and do not want to deal with a collection agency on trying to get my account paid off, just Chase. Can I call Chase and see if this is possible?

Are you sure it has been sold? They may just be collecting for Chase. Also, others have said when they could not get Chase to settle, they did get the collection company to do so. Good Luck

I haven't heard of chase taking back an account from a third party. If it hasn't been charged off, it most likely hasn't been sold. Call chase, they should be able to tell you exactly what the status is, and it never hurts to ask. You should have received a lettor from the DC, and reply to it with a DV letter. Chase should be able to confirm who the account was sold or given to with name and phone #.
