check refused?

I wrote a check about 2 months ago and was refused at WalMart. I did not have any returned checks, but I was told it was a fairly new checking account. I had moved back to Arkansas back in September and my old bank did not have a branch locally. So I changed banks after 15 years.
I am concerned that my check will be refused again if I write another one? It was EXTREMELY embarrassing and I left the store in tears.
