Judgment Question
Date: Sun, 06/24/2007 - 01:26
I was divorced in 1991. My ex didn't want anything from me (child support, etc.)Well, around 1996, my ex went on public assistance and the state (NY) then came to me for child support. Thus, I had several judgments filed against me for child support between 1998 and 2000 for wage garnishment. Up until May 2005 they were only listed on TU as judgments with the estimated dates of removal, the last due to fall of in May 2007. Through the years, with garnishments, extra payments and seizing of my tax refunds, these judgments have been paid off. (the last payment in 2005) My problem is these 5 judgments are now showing up on TU & EX as paid tax liens and won't come off in 2012. Is this correct ? They were not tax liens, they were judgments for child support. Any way I can get these removed or am I just "screwed" for 5 more years ?

You need to check with your state's child support site, and perhaps ask them directly, because there are so many ins and outs to how each state handles child support. You can also call an attorney who deals with child support, and get a free consultation over the phone, and get answers or perhaps an avenue of action to take. Keep us informed.
