Citgo bill
Date: Fri, 05/28/2010 - 12:10
Until August 23, 2009 I had a credit card with Citgo. I cancelled my card on August 23 because I discovered that I had lost all 3 of my credit cards. I was able to successfully reeinstate the other 2. I did not reactivate my Citgo card because I no longer have a vehicle and my Citgo card was used only to purchace gas. I was on vacation at the time. When I returned home I sent Citgo a check for $156.91, the amount I owed. I presumed that would end my account.
I continued receiving letters from Citgo. i presumed they were trying to get me to renew my card and I had no need of it so I put the mail in the wastebasket.
9 months later I finally opened one of their letters and was told I owed $94.91 on a closed account. I attempted to call Citgo to find out what happened and was transferred to CBE. I have made no contract with CBE and my contract with Citgo was cancelled on August 23, 2009. Since I made no contract with CBE I did not complete the call to them.
The only thing I can figure out is Citgo was charging me a late fee for my payment and turned that bill over to CBE. If that is true I am willing to pay the fine for the late fee to Citgo. But I have no responsibility to CBE
What do you suggest I do?

Call and send Citgo a letter and request that they send you an accounting. Even if your account was canceled they should still have your records on file so you'll be able to find out why you're being charged. You should also get a verification letter from CBE to find out how they got the right to collect the money Citgo says you owe. It may be that CBE bought the account or is just Citgo's collection agent, and see if you do have a responsibility to CBE.
