Hello

I received a summon letter today - I owed citi bank cc $11k. The letter stated that i am required to serve my answer within 20days, Can you pls help me im so confused right now. Do i have to go the court? or write a letter? Can i still call citibank & maybe they can work out w/ me for settlement? i never answer their calls bec i do not have answer yet for them- im hoping i can borrow money from relative. any advice would be really helpful. Thank you all

Since you have received the summons it would be wise to file your answer to it within the stipulated time, otherwise the creditor would be awarded with a default judgement. You can check out the following site for help to file your reply.

If you owe to Citi bank, you may consider settling outside the court.

You might have to call the attorney's office that has filed the lawsuit against you to discuss the settlement. But really, they might not agree to a settlement when they are have a better chance of winning the lawsuit.

The law firm suing me is: Justin C Taylor - I do have a case # in the letter & the letter comes from circuit court of where i am from. I do not have the money to pay the actual balance of $11k- I have a relative will help me but can only help for about $3k - I have a job but i do not make much plus i have a baby now to feed - i have a husband but we do not make much- our income is less now.

Do you think they will accept 3k for settlement ?
Whom i have to call to settle? the citi? or the atty's office? or which best to call to write them a letter?

This is a summon letter i received - i do not much about laws but it doesnt tell me the date or court which to go yet so is that mean i can settle them?

In the name of the state of wv you are hereby summoned and required to serve upon Justin C Taylor, plaintiff's attorney, who address: wv, an answer including any related conuterclaim you may have to the complaint filed against in the above civil action, a true copy of which is here with delivered to you. You are required to serve your answer within 020 days after service of this summons upon you, exclusive of the day of service. If you fail to do so, judgement by default will be taken against you for the relief demanded in the complaint and you will be thereafter barred from asserting in another action any claim you may have which must be asserted by counterclaim in the above style civil action.

This was filed on March 19th- I went to the post office this past Saturday March 27th- so i hav 20 days from 27th to answer or 19th??
