I started charging on the card about 3 years ago - stopped one year ago. I was living in China at the time and trying to start a business while teaching English. I was told that it would be simple...maybe it is if you can find people that don't want to scam you. Anyway, I have $10K on this card and $8K on a card from this year.

I returned to the U.S. in July and was living on savings as well as some $$ given me by friends. I am in school now pursuing a masters degree on loans. The excess money has dried up. I have been trying to find a part time job this past couple of months but to no avail, even though I have a BS in business administration and 20 years of experience as a teacher.

I still have donations to the tune of $220 per month coming in - I was working for a non-profit org in China. My monthly expenses for food, gas and insurance are just about $225 per month. I do not have medical insurance which, at 48 years old, is a big worry. Before "this mess" all started in November of last year my credit rating was about 620, if not higher.

What do you think my chances of doing debt settlement are on the Citibank card? I have made 2 payments in the last six months :( What will I likely encounter when I call the cc companies tomorrow? I am going to a debt counselor Wed afternoon.

I do not have any money but I think, if citi would let me settle, I think i could borrow money from friends to take care of that. It is odd that I don't think I could borrow $ to just live off of.

Help!
