In your website I came across settling debts through a law firm. Are settlement companies law firms? Is it ok to take help of a settlement company? what if they are a scam and compells to shell out more money?
A law
firm is always better than a normal settlement company. A law firm knows
the ins and outs of laws much better. However, whatever you choose, you
need to check out that you're taking help of a reliable law firm or a
settlement company. You can check out BBB ratings and customer reviews.
It is better to choose a company that is into business for at least 3
years and has a satisfied clientele.
You
can get help from a law firm offering settlement services. There is no
issue. Just check their online reviews and their success rate once.
Check if they registered with the State Bar Association. That is
important. But if you ask me, I would suggest you to settle debts
yourself. Why should you pay settlement fees if you can negotiate with
creditors on your own?
Yes, I
agree with Mabelle Page. Check out the reviews of that particular
settlement company in Better Business Bureau (BBB) and other customers'
reviews. Or, you can ask your friends or family members if they know
about that company. So, make a detailed research before you approach a
settlement company. Otherwise, you might be trapped with more debts.
