I received a letter from Halsted Financial Services LLC regarding a debt I owe.

Their letter reads they are referring my account to their legal department and over the next 30 days will be investigating my personal assets in preparation for a possible lawsuit.

My question is can (and how) they find my bank account which has minimal savings? Can they freeze my account?

I assume since this is consumer debt they cannot garnish my wages however I'm concerned about waking up one morning and not having access to what little money I have in my bank account.

Should I even pay attention to this letter, toss it away, or respond with some sort of request for validation?

The last thing I need is to have to live off of cash hidden underneath a pillow.

Thanks in advance.

halsted initially sent me a letter about my hsbc account asking me to pay a settlement or they will review my assets and determination to file suit will be made blah blah blah. Couple of weeks later a law firm called me, really rude, so i told them to go fly a kite. They kept wanting me to pay, but i didn't have any money to give them. all of my income goes towards my bills. I don't have any assets so i knew they couldnt do anything. But today i went to withdraw money from my account and i was told my bank account was FROZEN!! how could that be? my bank is not an asset?? thats my private account. how do i get them to unfreeze it so i can pay my bills. The law firm told me to pay and they will unfreeze it, i couldn't afford to pay it, so i called halsted and they told me to call the law firm. what can i do?
