I've just got a citation to go to court and pay a debt I owe. I didn't know what to do so I called the court and they told me it was a credit card company suing me and now I have to write a letter to the court about the debt i owe. What am I supposed to write besides what I owe? . If I owe the debt what do I do? Do I have to go to court? I got a call from their lawyer. Should I try to settle with the lawyer or what? What options do i have? 9000 is too much for me to pay. I don't have a job now. I Need some advice. is there any way they let me pay less than what i owed if its from the credit card company and not a collection agency???
Thanks...:(

Yes, you have to give a reply to the summons But do you really owe the debt? It seems that you are not sure about it. Check that first. You have to appear in the court on the scheduled date. Otherwise, the case may go against you. You can try to settle the debt before the court hearing. If you can negotiate well with them, then the card company may agree to reduce the debt amount. This may help you avoid the legal hassles also.
You can go through the following page to know how to answer the summons:

Unless you have a lump sum of cash to settle with right now, they are not likely to settle...they will not take payments long term to settle a debt. And an attorney will cost you at minimum $250 to write a letter and do a little resesarch.
Talk to the attorney handling the case....and look up the rules for civil procedure on the court house webpage to respond to the summons.
