While you wait to qualify for the disability, why not you call the creditors and make them aware about your situation. Most credit companies have some hardship programs for people in dire need. You may be able to qualify in one of their plans.

Definitely call them and explain the situation. Once you start recieving benefits you can see if they will work with you under a hardship program where they will reduce your monthly payment and sometimes freeze the interest and/or late fee's. If that doesn't work for you..take advantage of the free consultation offered here. They should be able to conect you with someone in your area that could put together a debt management program for you...you would make one payment to them and they will make your payments for you. In many cases they can have the interest and balance reduced making it easier to pay the cc's off.

Did you sign up for any of the extra insurance on your credit cards? If you did you need to contact them asap, because as soon as you become disabled they will pay your monthly payment. My dad learned the hard way, it may have been like $.75 for every $100 that you have charged but when your like $20,000 in debt and become completely disabled that 75 cents was worth it.
If you didn't have the insurance I would follow the advise given above. The more you keep them updated, the more they are willing to help you.

Hello lisandra1126,
Welcome to our community!
Your situation is a bit different from what we usually encounter here, but the main issue is the same: debt. As I usually recommend, sign-up for the free consultation. The counselors there have been very helpful in my case. You can also call the 1800 number displayed on this website to see how they can help you.
Good luck with your situation and keep us updated! Remember, we are always here for you! :D
