Hi community, I owe a credit card company $635.00. My credit limit was $300 when I got the card. Due to hardship was not able to pay. Now want to settle for the $300.00 what is my next step can someone help me. I would like the negative information off my credit report and not be sued for the rest later. Thanks in advance

Are you dealing with the creditor or a collection company? Have you already defaulted on the account? If the account has been charged off then probably it's already in your report. Most you can negotiate for 'pay for delete'. The creditor would then remove the negative information from your report once you satisfy the settlement.

To avoid any collection effort on the rest of the amount you must ensure that you receive every promise in writing.
