#1 I received a summons from Daniels Law Offices to file an answer for civil suit for Midland Credit. Original Creditor was Citi. I want to settle this but how should I go about it. Last Nov i sent a DV and it took them until March of this year to get back to me and all they sent were printouts of a couple credit card statements?? is that sufficient proof in Mass that they have the right to collect? Should I offer settlement and can I at this point I have about 2 weeks to file the answer.

#2 I received a collections notice from Academy collections about another unsecured loan I had with HFC. Balance was about $16K they now say it is $21K and offered to settle for 65%....but I cannot come up with that kind of money all at once any advice?

You should file an answer to the summons within the stipulated time. You can visit the courthouse and request the court clerk to provide you paperwork submitted by the lawfirm to know the validity of this debt.

You can negotiate a settlement even after filing the answer to the summons.

If you cannot pay the whole amount at time then negotiate a payment plan with the collection agency. Also get the agreements in writing.
