is there a way to deal directly with the government re student loan which was not paid on for 20 years. or some other way to help a destitute person who may be suicidal after Allied United's collection efforts?

RE defaulted student loans - 20 left unpaid. Is there any way to make arrangements with the government directly and avoid Allied INterstate? Their papers of promisary note does not include terms of payment or the percent interest - only that it floats and cannot exceed 8% or so. In a time when your can buy a house at 4% or less this seems fishy.

You have had 20 years to deal with this. Look at consolidating your loan with the Direct Loan Program thru the US department of Education...information is in the stickies at the top of the student loan forum.

Nothing fishy....student loan rates are set by the year you borrowed them.
