has anyone heard of debt free associates? they are a member of TASC .. They dont seem to be registered with BBB. Is the TASC good enough or should they be registered with BBB?

You have to build an account with them and have enough money in it for them to work on a settlement and it can take some time to do that when they are taking over 50% of your monthly payment up front for there pay. We were paying $500 a month for 5 months ($2500) and only had $700 to put towards any settlement. They did nothing in that time to try and settle any debt. We were getting calls until we sent cease and desist letters to the creditors to not contact us. Debt Free Assoc. did none of that work. We did it all. On the 6th month we had to choose between a roof over are head or paying them. I became disabiled and we were trying to get me on disability. Well that doesn't happen over night. After not being able to pay for a certain amount of time they cancel your account and keep all the money except a certain percentage. Ours was a return of $700. I tried in Feb. to get a lump sum payment to them and the lady we worked with said it would be fine to send it in April because that's when the money was coming in. In March they closed are account. I called her and she did nothing for us. They kept our money and when asked for an itemized statement said they do not have to give one. Of course that was after 3 months of contacting them and be told it was on its way. I would never do it again. They did nothing, took money and as far as I am concerned had no care for me and my family. Was willing to let my kids starv to get there money.

I agree we paid them $3000 and got $700 back. I believe we should have gotten $1800 back. They are a rip off.

I also lost thousands in "fees" from cancelling my contract with DFA. What really upsets me is that they tell you to stop paying your credit cards, which resulted in my case in a serious drop of my credit score (I had always paid on time before joining DFA). Some direct effects: I was denied home improvement loans, Home Depot cancelled my card even though I had a positive balance! I feel that DFA is directly responsible for this situation and should be held accountable. Has anyone tried?
I want to but think that we'd have more punch if we worked together. I have some ideas to put the pressure on. Interested? contact me at: lemanik (at) charter.net

dear anonymous:

i STRONGLY recommend that you do NOT sign on with debt free associates (DFA) or any other debt consolidator. they are VULTURES looking to prey on the weak and desperate! i paid $440 a month into DFA for almost a year and i have less than $2000 in my banked savings with them. they charge you 10% of your debt AND $75 a month in fees, up front. after almost a year of payments they did not negotiate any of my accounts i listed with them. i ended up contacting the collection agents directly and was able to negotiate my debt down to 50% or less. SAVE YOUR MONEY and negotiate directly with your creditors.

hello!

according to their webpage, they are associated with BBB. either way, do NOT use DFA or any other debt consolidator. you can negotiate your own debt. debt consolidators are money-sucking vultures that feed off of the weak and desperate!!! there is a lawyer somewhere amongst these blogs that is filing a class action suit against DFA because of their fraudulent claims to resolve debt.

Oh My God....Debt Free Associates ???... If you ever think of joining them...my suggestion is run as fast as you can and bang your head on a rock...I bet that will hurt you way lesser than trying to get help from DebtFreeAssociates...
I beg you ...please do NOT go with them...I tell you, the actual creditors and collection agencies are way way way better and helping than this stu*** and annoying DFA. Never go to them.
And, one more thing....the only English speaking person in that whole company is the person who encoourages you to sign up.....after that, that person will never be reachable...but you will be talking to the "Customer Service Representatives"..ha ha..who are just learning to speak English.... You will spend atleast one full day to communicate simple requests...
Best of all, they will say your account has been updated with your request....but if you call 10 more times....the tenth time also you will be begging them to write your request on your account..

In simple terms : Dont escape from Creditors(Cats) and get caught with DFA (Alligators & Vultures)....It's better to surrender to the creditors than begging DFA.

Take my advice...I'm probably the most experienced with them and very recently(05-09-2011)

This company takes advantage of desparate people.

I thought I had done sufficient research--but I wish I had found this website and seen these comments before I did. If you are considering signing up with them, please take it from someone who has learned the hard way: RUN, DON'T WALK, AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! Almost all creditors will work out a payment plan with you directly and you don't have to pay DFAs huge fees.

I do not work for DFA they worked for me!!! I understood up front what the fees would be for the work they would do. This is understandable seeing that DFA is working for deadbeats trying to beat the system and get out of paying their full debt, (Yes me too) of course they are going to get their money first. But once I got DFA paid off, all of my following funds went into my savings account, and once I built up money in my savings account DFA did their thing and got to work on my CC debt saving me on average 68% of what was owed to the CC companys. If I add in what DFA charged for their service I ended up paying around 47% of my total CC Debt. That is exactly what the "up front statement" they told me would happen. DFA said that they could cut my total Debt by at least 50%. I followed the rules they set out for me to follow, Sent my hardship letters, they did their part and I just paid off my last settlement yesterday. Now I am on my way to building my credit score and guess what DFA is helping me with that too. Last note..YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE SYSTEM, SEND OUT THE LETTERS THEY TELL YOU TO SEND, AND READ ALL THE FINE PRINT. THANKS TO YOU DFA FOR ALL YOUR HELP.
