I have 2 cards that I want to stop using completely...they are maxed out, and I am tired of the interest accruing on them. I can't keep up (see other post). Can I call and ask for a settlement of some sort? Or do I need to write some fancy letter?? If so, anyone have a sample? Can anyone lead me in right direction to debt freedom? Credit is already shot, and not going to get better if I don't get a handle on this. :(

If you stop paying on the cards and become delinquent, they will start calling you and sending you letters. You CAN settle yourself eventually and you don't have to pay anyone to do it for you. If you will read read read this forum, you will find invaluable information on getting it done.

They will not settle with you just because you call. You will have to become delinquent first.
