AMEX sent a 60% settlement offer

Hi, all.
Yesterday we received a 60% settlement offer directly from AMEX. This was a corporate card where hubby was laid off and his company did not pay a dime on his expense report and since he was laid off we couldnt pay it earlier.
it has been through a few collection agencies...when DH spoke with the collection agencies he told them both that it was an unpaid expense report and they said immediately said okay and told him they would stop calling and sending letters....and they did.
So, we would like to pay it as we are trying to get a home loan. However, what do I need to know about doing this? Should I have DH call and get a letter? Should we try to settle for less? I assume we should not pay online or send a check...money order?
Thanks all and happy day. :p

Have you thought about suing the ex employer for the expenses?

Settling is a personal decision based upon your circumstances.
Settling is a personal decision based upon your circumstances. Just be aware that I settled with Amex at 35% after 75 days and I see someone here just settled for 25%.
