whats a dismissal hearing?

Can someone please explain what a dismissal hearing is? I cannot get to talk to anyone at the court. This is for a civil debt case, I am the defendant. I have been tracking my case online and see that the court has scheduled a "dismissal hearing" for May 19. What exactly does this mean? Will the court write to me? Do I have to attend? Thank you for your help. I am in Texas

Hey steve, I'm not a legal expert, hence take my reply with a pinch of salt.
As far my understanding goes, dismissal hearing implies that the judge may drop the case against the defendant unless the plaintiff
# dismisses the entire action against you before the hearing.
or,# validate to stay in the entire action within the specified time period.
or,#asked for extension of time limit within which to file the request for dismissal.
Well, I think if you can let us know little bit about the background we can offer better advices.
