Disputing a debt

I was looking over my credit report and there are things still on there that have been paid and things that have moved from one collector to another but the old collector is still on there. Are these things that I can dispute? What can you dispute on a credit report?

Even though the accounts have got paid the entry would remain for seven years if you haven't negotiated for 'pay for delete'.

What is pay for delete? What about creditors that pass on the debt? Should they still be on my creidt report if they are no longer the holder?
