Welcome to the Community :D Unfortunately, this can go on a long time.
They usually do not have the proper documents to validate, and hope that they will scare or threaten you into paying something- even if it isn't yours!
If they can't get you to pay, alot of times they sell it to another Collection Ageny, and the process starts over.
Always keep everything you are sent, and make copies of everything, and take notes if you speak with them If they ever decide to sue, you will have some proof of them breaking the law.
I have been dealing with one Collection Agency for alomost 2 years, no validation, etc.
Good Luck..Keep us posted..Karen

 thank-you Karen for your quick repsonse--and the answer was pretty much what I expected after reading the many awful stories on this site regarding debt collection practices. I can't believe there isn't more media coverage on all of the violations these companies knowingly participate in--and people never realize how badly other people are being treated until you get in the same situation and can't believe it is actually happening to you! And you find yourself thinking "What gives them the right to act this way?" I am still trying to figure that out--and in the meantime will keep sending letters and calling anyone I can think of to try and draw attention to this matter-and I think the one good thing so far that has come out of my particular situation with debt collectors is that it lead me to this site where so many nice people are communicating and supportive of one another--and it honestly makes me feel good inside that people here are helping others and aren't being monetarily compensated for their kind efforts--thanks again Karen I appreciate your response and will update as soon as something else happens--I haven't heard anything from them in about two months since I last told them I was forwarding their latest correspondence to FTC and State Attorney General--so I'm thinking they probably resold the debt by now--also I know that if I took them to court for their fdcpa violations--I have documentation and witness to conversation and also two recorded calls where they stepped over the line--but I think many people are in the same boat that I am in-I have a life to live-I don't have time to set everything aside and proceed with a court case-I have a business to run--an elderly mother to care for--and a family to take care of--we all have a full plate and something like this comes along and it's like why should I have to compromise my life and put it on hold to receive vindication? In my case as I believe many others to be who could sue collection agencies for fdcpa violations and win--it simply isn't worth the time and effort--but if they decide to come after me--I know I will be compensated--so for now I'm just playing the waiting game. Thanks again to all the wonderful people on this site-I am glad I found you
