I have in the past and people do it all the time. Be sure you have thick skin because you'll be bombarded w/ threats to sue and garnish; it's not a walk in the park. Lots of good advice on this forum.

There are many here in these forums that have either finished or still doing self debt settlement.
Search the forums and you'll find a wealth of info.
Search "sample letters".
Also search for doing "self debt settlement" or "doing debt settlement on my own". Those will get you started.

The best time to settle is the end of the month...especially the last 5 days. December is a rough collections month being up against santa and if you present a reasonable settlement and have the cash in hand, you could probably save some money! Do your research...know your balance and try to research here how much they have settle for in the past. Have a fax number ready, even if it is your local kinkos. Call and ask....then have them fax you a settlement.
