Okay so I have done much reading on here. Is it better to settle your CC debt yourself or have a company do it for you? I have about 18K in CC debt, some small some big. I am just wondering if it isn't good enough to just do this myself.

If you can do it yourself, you will save some money in fees. However, you will have to put up with collection calls. Then again, even if you hire a company, the calls don't always stop. As you say, there is a lot of good information on this site, and there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this board to give you help and advice.

If you do decide to hire a company, be sure to do lots of research and find a reliable one. There are a lot of scumbag companies out there.

Doing it yourself will most defininetely save you money, it will save you about $900 on retainer fee payable the first three months you are in a dmp program.

Also, you will save about an additional $1800 assuming you can settle your accounts for about 50% savings at 20% commission rate. That is a total savings of $2700, don????t you think you can settle at least one or two accounts with this money?

Most definitely if you are not shy and like to talk on the phone, settle your own debt.
