I got a great job in southern California in January 2007. Considering the drastic increase in cost-of-living, I am making slightly less than I was, but very high potential for increased pay within a year or two. I have about 17K in credit card debt because I'm stupid. I also have some student loans (~12k) that has just entered into repayment. I'm tired of being stressed about money, so I'm doing something about it! :D

I am glad that you have taken the first important step and set up a repayment plan with your loan company. Be current in the plan so that you don't have to face any troubles from your lenders. Later when your financial situation improves, make larger payments and you will soon become debt free.

Have you called the credit card companies to work out some payment arrangements? Explain your financial problems and you might see them working on your terms. In case you need professional help, talk to a debt counselor as referred by this website

Good luck to you in your goal to pay down your credit. I'm sorry your income is not what it used to be, and the cost of living has gone up for you. I would do what the previous poster suggest and see if you can make arrangements on paying. Some may even take a percentage and clear your bill---it doesn't look the best on your credit, but it's better than not paying at all.

Good luck, and you have found a good place. Everyone is great at helping out here and steering you in the right direction!
