You may not wish to settle with them without knowing the details
You may not wish to settle with them without knowing the details. Making payments over the phone is sounding fishy to me. And do not give away your account details to them under any circumstances.
FIA,as a company, has a shrouded existence. Their modus-operandi isn't very clear.
I'm sure, you'll receive more feedbacks form the other members as well. So, just keep a watch.

I've had to settle with them before. Let me tell you they are a **** to deal with. I had several men talk so hateful to me I was about to give up and not deal with it. Then I got a hold of a nice lady whom helped me so much on this. Really depends on who you get to work with. I set my payments up in advance. I owed them a little over $8,000. I had to settle with them for half. Let it go as far as you can and you may get a better settlement. Your's don't sound bad yet, but you may come up with a lower number. I had another creditor I settled with for only $2,000 on an $11,000 loan. Tell them what you have and work with it. Don't let them make you upset or mad. You do need to get everything in writing though. Keep a journal of what days you talk, call,or receive anything in the mail. Get it in writing first. Don't give out any info. until you get it in writing first. This way you can safe yourself a lot of heartache. Stay on top for you and not them. They are only out to make a extra dollar if they can. Stay focused. Keep us updared. Good luck and make sure they correct the info on your credit report. I did and they did report it as "settled" with a 0 balance.
