Can anyone tell me if this seems reasonable. My case is pretty simple i think. Is it worth trying to do it yourself? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.[/COLOR]

guess it depends on the attorney. i met with one who charges a flat $1600 att. fee and of course the court fee of $299. so $1900 is all its gonna cost me.

Prices vary and will often depend on where you live. Chapter 7 can be done pro se if you do your homework....I would not however recommend trying to file a 13 pro se....they are much more complicated.

Just get all the necessary forms and books from the library. Fill in all the blanks and become sure of what each item means and that you are accurate. Then you have confidence going into it. Don't file for bankruptcy if you have tax skeletons in your closet, or any other illegal doings in the past, or property you want to keep that exemptions won't cover.

I would never ever file bk myself. Some legal things you can do yourself, but a bk is way way too complicated. Sounds simple but it's really not. I thought mine would be simple until I talked to an attorney who said that my credit union had tied my credit card with them to my car loan - so if I wanted to keep the car then I had to pay off the credit in full. That was just one of the many things that surprised me.
That's why I just settled myself instead of the bk. Oh and so you know - it was $3000 here to file as well.
