Recently, I finalized a divorce with impending financial disaster written all over it. My credit has been good and all of my bills have been paid (albeit some of them with late fees, but, never 30 days late).

The problem I am facing is the reality of having accrued $25k in credit card debt due to having had to use the cards for legal fees, living expenses etc. Since it has maxed out all of my credit limits, I am now at a 30-32% interest level which is now making my monthly minimum credit card payments close to $1,000/month.

Since I worked with my former husband in our business and am currently unemployed, it was recommended that I explore the option of debt settlement.

After searching the web, I discovered this website, and, was genuinely hoping someone could give me their feedback on the viability of that kind of decision. The one company I spoke with about it offered a 40% reduction, 1% fee, 36 month payoff. If this is a real option, I was wondering how I could negotiate closer to a 60% reduction on principal and an 18 month payoff.

But, mostly, I would really appreciate the pros and cons of this option and any companies that are reputable in this area. And, of course, any personal experience would be nice to know. Sincerely, Tricia

Take a look at the ranking chart in this website. You will find different companies in your area from whom you can take the free quotes. The companies at the top are based on the feedbacks given by their customers. You will know the company that can work the best in your situation and your debt gets eliminated at the maximum.

Before you sign up with any company, research them with your state attorney general office and the BBB so that you are sure of them being reputed. Since you will be paying them for their services, make sure that they get the best results and make you debt free within the stipulated time period
